Here’s the deal:
Five years ago I moved to New York City to pursue acting. And five years ago I wrote my first song.
These two facts have sent me on a wild ride from bluegrass jams to Bushwick, from craigslist gigs to coffee shops, from the Mckibben Lofts to an attic in Bed-Stuy, with hundreds of stories, poems, and songs in the process.
But for all of my time in New York City, what I’ve really explored is my relationship to the South. Folk music, my family, what it means to expand from your roots, what it means to be broken in pursuit of the truth. And how to keep going when nothing makes sense.
Which is why I’m presenting “North, South” a workshop performance of storytelling and song about the pull between Southern Skies and New York City Stomping Grounds. The performance is based around the songs off of my new EP, titled “Don’t Turn Away.” Everyone who attends will receive a free download of the EP!...
